Found on the Mornington Peninsula, on a spit of land that almost closes the door to ships entering Port Phillip Bay. Sorrento is a less wealthy cousin to its big brother Portsea next door. I’m possibly overworking the family metaphors but either way it’s oftentimes a zig-zag through-fare on the way to Portsea pub, it’s broader beaches or Point Nepean National Park.

Well this time, take a park at Koonya Dog Beach, watch where you tread and head west down the Sorrento front-beach. Just before the Sorrento pier march up Ocean Beach Rd, sample a coffee, marvel at the colonial period architecture and emerge at Sorrento Ocean Beach or its Back Beach if you want to confuse the situation. Enjoy the bays and lookouts along Coppins Track before turning up Hughes Rd at Koonya Beach and high-tailing for home.
